FAQs
Bounties offer a way for developers to propose repos that they'd like to see published to the marketplace. Similar to other crowdfunding platforms, developers can contribute money to a bounty which creates an financial incentive for experts to work on the project. However, this isn't a requirement for bounties as they also operate as a discussion forum and collaboration hub for a proposed project. Either way, when a bounty is won, all proceeds are transferred to the winning repository, the bounty and repository are linked, and then the bounty is closed.
Bounty submissions are currently limited to users and teams that have been approved by an admin. This way, we can better manage the stream of incoming project requests and make sure we connect you to the best developers for the job. That said, we will eventually open this up to the broader community and are open to your suggestions in the meantime.
To submit a bounty, simply click the 'Submit New' button at the top of the page and then follow the prompts in the page wizard. While working on your bounty, make sure to save your progress so you can come and go as you please. When you're ready, simply click 'Submit for Review' on the final page to notify our team.
Bounties are a perfect example of being a community-driven platform as they offer a structured way to propose projects and curate which repos make their way into the marketplace. In essence, by submitting a bounty, you are simply starting a conversation with our team and the greater community.
In general, we're open to any bounty that proposes a software repository that falls within our Community Guidelines. That said, we're generally looking for starters, recipes, and templates in the more popular programming languages to start. This way, we're able to support a broad portion of the market while we work to bring in more experts to fill speciality needs.
Once you submit your bounty, our team will receive a notification indicating you are ready for review. Most submissions take less than 24 hours. And, if we have questions, we'll be sure to reach out. When approved, we'll alert you via email and then we'll alert the appropriate members of our community an hour later.
Yes. You can edit your bounty at anytime via the submission flow until it gets published to the marketplace. After that, you can manage your bounty via the settings page on your bounty.
No. You can submit a bounty free of charge.
Playbooks takes a 20% commission from every contribution made on our platform and then we distribute another 10% to the Community Fund. So, 30% total. We do this to maintain symmetry with repository sales and to ensure the continued operation of our platform. You can read more about the Community Fund and the how it works via the FAQ page.
Submitting a bounty to Playbooks does not guarantee we will publish your work. That said, we view our contributors as critical partners to our mission and the community-driven approach we are taking. So, we'll always work with you to overcome any differences and ensure a successful outcome.
